YOCU -YOUNG CULTURE
The virtual platform YOUNG CULTURE enables young cultural audiences to be part of the latest technological developments. In various cultural fields, the platform offers virtual and hybrid offerings, complementing performances in theatres and public spaces, exhibitions and workshops in museums, libraries or at school. The YOUNG CULTURE platform enables children and young people to actively participate in culture in their own city as well as around the world - and thus strengthens cultural diversity and community building!
YOUNG CULTURE facilitates the participation of schools in events, offers easy access to digital teaching materials and creates dialogue between culture and schools.
YOUNG CULTURE will be continuously expanded in the coming years - with a focus on interdisciplinary offers and the engagement of young people for culture and art.
Art and culture for children?
We say yes!
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child states that children have a right to learn and to be artistically active (Art. 3 and 4). We would like to meet this right with our offers.
Leading children and young people into artistic processes also means teaching them cultural values such as respect towards themselves and other people, equality and dignity of each individual and towards other cultures. At the same time, it means allowing them to help shape a society and giving them the right to question and, if necessary, redefine the cultural concept for their generation.
We are convinced that cultural and artistic experiences shape children and young people in their development and that they can thereby acquire skills for the further course of their lives. These include (self-)reflection, contextualisation, creativity, engagement, aesthetic empowerment, body coordination, flexibility, etc.
Art is seen as an essential social area that exemplifies the processes of life. In this sense, we understand mediation as a questioning process so that children and young people can find their own answers as to how a work of art can provide knowledge.

The mediation of culture is at the centre of YOUNG CULTURE. Therefore, all programmes, performances and activities are tailored to the respective age group. Different formats offer children and young people the opportunity to experience productions more comprehensively and intensively and to take on active roles, e.g. at the Young Dance Festival.
